Big (Wide) Arc won't give You More Distance

There are some golf tips on magazines and book that explain the bigger or wider arc will give you more distance and power for your driver.

When you look at long hitters, they might have a bigger arc.

But for you to swing with a bigger arc, you need to prevent your wrist cock until you reach near the top of your swing.

This move will be unnatural for most golfers. If you ask average golfers to widen their arc on the backswing, they will start to have problems with their weight shift.

Cocking your wrist early on your backswing will help you turn more on the backswing. So if you prevent cocking of your wrist on the backswing, you will turn less and tend to leave your weight on your front foot.

There are some famous tour players who use wider arc, but I don't think it's for everyone.

I recommend you to set your wrist early to turn more on the backswing.
